Quick and Fresh huh? Not really. We went to Mitaki cuz we saw the prices for the special rolls were decent. It's located kind of near the Wal-Mart in Downtown Long Beach.



This place has decent food. The rolls were cool, and the combination tasted okay. The only thing bad was the portion of the combination. If you look at the picture, the scoop of rice sucks, and the fish was pretty small itself. For the price I paid, I would rather get a combo at L&L Hawaiian BBQ.

I didn't think the rolls were too bad. Next time I come here, I'll just get rolls. Again, I forgot which rolls we got, and I also forgot which one we didn't like too much. I think the one with the rice below the salmon roll was the one we weren't feeling.





My girl wasn't too impressed with this place. I'd go here again for the rolls. But there's just so many other sushi places in Long Beach that I don't know if I'll ever get another chance to eat here.

Your House is another restaurant like Baiplu-- thai and japanese fusion. They serve Thai dishes as well as Japanese dishes (mostly sushi). I don't know if they're the same owners, but they have somewhat different menus and happy hours. Your House has their happy hour from like 3pm-7pm or 4pm-7pm. They have a select number of rolls for $6.

I've been here twice and I know that I didn't like too many of their happy hour rolls. The one we liked was the.... I forgot what it was called. I know I'm useless, but it's been a while. I'll take notes next time.

The one on top is the one we liked. The colorful one below is the rainbow roll which we didn't like too much.


Again... the one with green is the good one, the other one was whatever.

So would I go here again? Yeah, sure. Why not. Would I be excited to go? If I hadn't eaten all day, maybe. I guess cuz I was being cheap and only tried the happy hour rolls that I'm not too excited about the place. Let me know if their other stuff is good!

I go to sushi restaurants for their baked/special rolls. I'm not into the raw stuff too much. Jubei has little or no special rolls that I could remember. The best thing for me was the salmon teriyaki. I usually order that when a) I'm too broke to buy 4 different rolls, or b) They don't have any rolls that I would want to order. In this case, it was b. Their dynamite was okay but not the greatest for sure. Mimi said the sushi that they're supposedly known for didn't taste that great. They put a dab of wasabi in between the sushi and the rice. She said she thinks they do that when they want to hide the taste of the sushi.

Jubei wasn't super expensive, but it wasn't on the cheaper side of the sushi restaurant spectrum either. I surely don't wanna go here again. If you like raw sushi, you might still want to check it out cuz I've read everybody else's reviews and they loved it. Maybe it was because we got there an hour before closing that the sushi wasn't great. Oh well. Moving on.....

(Jim) There's probably one thing I don't like about eating sushi... and that-- it's pretty expensive. Even at the cheapest sushi places you'll end up spending probably over $10 for your meal. Assuming that you order just rolls and sushi, $10-$15 worth probably won't get you full. And that's probably for the cheaper stuff. If you want the specialty rolls, those go for about $8-$12 each. So you have to kind of balance out the quality with the quantity (if you're on a budget).

And then I stumble upon Aki Sushi/Baiplu in Long Beach. What's interesting about this place is that it's a combination of a sushi bar and a thai restaurant. You can order Japanese food and/or Thai food. I love that concept because you can still order the special rolls and you know you'll be full because you can order just one dish from the thai menu to keep your stomach happy.

When I went, we ordered:
Hula Hula roll
Baked Lobster roll
Volcano Roll
crab fried rice

The rolls we ordered were pretty good except I wouldn't order the baked lobster roll again. It's a little sweet or something, and I didn't reallly taste the lobster. The total bill came out to about $30 something plus tip. The service was great and they were very friendly. I would definitely go here again.

Update: 12-5-07

I recently went here and found out that they have a happy hour on Sunday-Thursday at 3pm-5pm. I don't know if they change the items, but their bulletin board said the Popcorn Lobster roll, Albacore roll, Sweet Girl roll, and Rocky Roll are $5 per order. I'm gonna check it out soon.
